Scholarship Process

Scholarship Application Process

All students who are interested in applying for scholarships for the upcoming academic year (fall and spring semesters) must complete and submit a Scholarship Application via the Scholarship Manager portal located on the MSU website.

  • The application is available within the Scholarship Manager portal year-round.

  • The application deadline is March 15. Late applications may be submitted after the deadline, but priority will go to applications by the deadline.

  • All scholarship application forms will be retained within the Scholarship Manager portal.

Scholarship Selection Process

Scholarship awards are made for one academic year with the exception of renewable scholarships. Awards are made for both fall and spring semesters simultaneously unless the criteria specifies otherwise. Students will receive one scholarship disbursement per semester. Students awarded a scholarship for the spring semester only will receive the full amount of their scholarship award in one disbursement.

Please note: The aforementioned process does not replace the donor's intent as outlined in the specified scholarship criteria.

The Executive Scholarship Committee will meet after the Financial Aid Office has received the scholarship sub-committee selections. The Financial Aid Office will validate the selections to ensure all eligibility requirements have been met.

  • If a scholarship amount is $250 or less, it will be given to the student for fall semester only in all cases.
All other scholarships will be selected by a  committee consisting of Financial Aid, Enrollment Center and the Foundation Office.

All final scholarship approvals lie  with the Executive Scholarship Committee.

Scholarship Awarding Criteria

  • Students must be enrolled at least half-time, in good standing with the university and in good standing academically to receive a scholarship disbursement.

  • Maximum award limits regarding scholarship offers cannot exceed the student's Cost of Attendance.

  • After the Financial Aid Office receives final approval of scholarship offers from the Executive Scholarship Committee, awards will be processed in Campus Connection.

  • Proportional awarding of scholarships may be considered on a case-by-case basis dependent on credit load for less than half-time students.

Award Notifications Process and Acceptance Process

  • All scholarship recipients will receive an official email notification of their scholarship(s) award(s) from the Financial Aid Office.

  • Students must accept their scholarship offer within the Scholarship Manager portal and submit a thank you(s) to the Financial Aid Office prior to disbursal of scholarship funds.

  • The Financial Aid Office may consult with the departments of any unclaimed scholarship offers.
